REVISED TIMELINES

CALL FOR PAPERS

INTERNATIONAL SHOW CAVES ASSOCIATION

7TH CONGRESS

2-8 NOVEMBER 2014, JENOLAN CAVES, AUSTRALIA

The overall theme for the Congress is

The Challenge of Sustainably Showing Caves in the 21st Century

The language for the Congress will be English.

The organizers are calling for 25 papers aligned to one or more of the following subjects:

  Innovations in cave lighting

  Lampenflora avoidance and control

Environmental monitoring in show caves and its application for management

Innovations in show cave infrastructure development

Building sustainable show cave management futures

  Improving interpretation and guiding approaches

Interpretation of archaeology and anthropology in show caves

Interpretation of palaeontology in show caves

Management of show caves and bats and other fauna

Other subjects relating to show caves

Postersare also sought oriented to the above subjects and any other ideas related to show caves. Formal poster sessions will be established so that poster presenters can interact with Congress attendees.

The organizers have created a small internationally-based panel of cave scientists, managers and operators to consider and select submitted presentations to ensure that your 7th ISCA Congress has the finest selection of paper and poster presentations.

The panel consists of Andy Spate (chair), Dr Julia James (internationally known karst scientist and caver), Prof Arrigo Cigna (well known to ISCA members) and Steve Bourne (Editor of the ACKMA Journal and former manager of the World Heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves in South Australia).

At this time we intend to have 20 minutes of presentation followed by 5 minutes of questions and comments. Our chairs will keep strictly to these time periods. Presenters are encouraged to rehearse the presentations to ensure that they can present their ideas within the 20 minute time frame.

We intend publishing the proceedings of your 7th Congress on a USB drive rather than as a printed document. Thus we look forward to your paper or poster presentation as a MSWord (see below about the ACKMA Template©), MSPowerPoint or as a pdf document – or any or all of those formats.

Note that if we do not receive the full abstracts by 30 August they will not be presented at the Congress. Presenters will be able to modify their papers in light of discussions at the Congress before the CD/DVD is produced but a strict deadline has been established.

The procedure will be as follows:

Titles and brief abstracts (maximum 300 words] by 30 June 2014 advising whether you wish your presentation to be a paper or a poster. Get in early!

Review by the panel by 1-15 July.

Presenters will be advised of whether their paper or poster is appropriate and accepted by 16 July. You should start to prepare your full written paper or poster after acceptance.

Following acceptance - titles and full abstracts by 15 August. These will need to be submitted as MSWord documents: Times New Roman, 12 point font with headings in bold. Maximum size of the full abstract no more than 900 words.

These will be printed for the Congress.

Following acceptance you will be provided with the ACKMA Conference Paper Template© and the Guidelines© for its use for preparation of your full written paper. The template must be used so that we are able to produce the Congress proceedings quickly and efficiently.

Abstracts and other correspondence regarding papers and posters should be sent to Andy Spate - aspate1@bigpond.com

Following the Congress, presenters will have six weeks to modify their full papers in light of discussions/questions arising from the spoken presentation or discussions at their posters. That is, the deadline for inclusion on the USB drive will be 20 December 2013.

We will endeavor to have the USB drive completed and posted to Congress attendees and others with two-three months after December.
